At the 2019 Miami Open women's singles final, Ashleigh Barty defeated Karolína Plíšková 7–6(7–1), 6–3 to win the title. It was Barty’s first WTA Premier Mandatory title and it took her into the top 10 of the rankings for the first time. The defending champion Sloane Stephens lost in the third round to Tatjana Maria. Naomi Osaka remained world No. 1 after Simona Halep reached the semifinals but then lost. Other players like Petra Kvitová, Angelique Kerber, and Elina Svitolina were also in contention for the top ranking. All seeds received a bye into the second round.
