2003–04 Portsmouth F.C. season
Portsmouth F.C.’s 2003–04 season was their first in the Premier League since 1987–88. Under chairman Milan Mandarić and manager Harry Redknapp, they played at Fratton Park and wore a new kit from their Pompey Sport brand.
The team finished 13th, safely avoiding relegation, and were one of the few sides to struggle away (only two away wins) but enjoy solid home form. They started the season well and even topped the table after three games, but later spent time in the relegation zone before rallying to finish 13th, ahead of clubs like Everton, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham. They were also one of only two teams to remain unbeaten against Arsenal’s Invincibles in the league that year.
In cup competitions, Portsmouth reached the FA Cup Sixth Round and the League Cup Fourth Round. Yakubu was their top scorer, with 16 league goals (19 in all competitions).
Attendance at Fratton Park was strong, averaging about 20,082 for home league games. The highest home attendance was 20,140 across five matches (including games against Chelsea, Newcastle United, Southampton, Manchester United, and Arsenal), while the lowest was 20,024 against Blackburn Rovers.
