Toronto Maple Leafs (Canadian Baseball League)
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a baseball team based in Toronto and play in the Canadian Baseball League. They host games at Dominico Field at Christie Pits. Founded in 1969, they began as a semi-pro team in the Intercounty Baseball League and are sometimes called the Intercounty Maple Leafs to avoid confusion with the city’s hockey team. They have eight league titles: 1972, 1982, 1985, 1988, 1995, 1999, 2002, and 2007. In 2002 they were undefeated at home and won the championship.
Ownership and honors shaped their history for decades. Jack and Lynne Dominico ran the team for 40 years; Lynne died in 2008 and Jack in 2022. The Jack and Lynne Dominico Trophy honors them. The team was put up for sale in 2023 and sold in November 2023 to a group led by Keith Stein and Rob Godfrey, among others. In December 2024, Ayami Sato was signed as the league’s first female player and the first female to play professional baseball in Canada; she began playing in May 2025. On November 24, 2025, the league rebranded from the Intercounty Baseball League to the Canadian Baseball League, turning the Leafs into a fully professional team with their first pro season planned for May 2026.
The Leafs have featured several former Major League players, including Pete Orr, Rich Butler, Rob Butler, Paul Spoljaric, Chris Leroux, Dustin Richardson, and Angel Castro. The team colors are blue and white, and Rob Butler serves as both manager and general manager.
