Feminine Forever
Feminine Forever is a 1966 book by American gynecologist Robert A. Wilson. Wilson argues that menopause is a serious medical condition and promotes estrogen-based menopausal hormone therapy to relieve symptoms, keep femininity, and improve health and quality of life.
The book was marketed directly to women and became a best-seller, helping to greatly increase the use of estrogen therapy for menopause. Critics said Wilson’s claims were not backed by solid evidence.
Later studies, including the Women's Health Initiative, found that estrogen therapy can carry risks such as blood clots and breast cancer, and that its benefits may be smaller than Wilson claimed.
Decades after the book appeared, it was revealed that the drug company behind Premarin secretly paid Wilson to promote its use.
