1983 Metro Conference men's basketball tournament
The 1983 Metro Conference men’s basketball tournament took place March 10–12 at Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio. Seven teams competed; seeding was based on regular-season records, with the top seed getting a bye to the semifinals and the other six starting in the first round. Louisville defeated Tulane 66–51 in the championship game to win its fourth Metro title, led by coach Denny Crum. Rodney McCray of Louisville was the tournament MVP. By winning, Louisville earned an automatic bid to the 1983 NCAA Tournament, where they would reach the Final Four. Memphis State earned an at-large bid. This was Southern Miss’s first Metro tournament after joining from independent status, replacing Saint Louis, which left for the Midwestern City Conference before the season.
