Talbot, Indiana
Talbot is an unincorporated community in Hickory Grove Township, Benton County, Indiana. It is part of the Lafayette metropolitan area. The town was laid out on February 18, 1873 by Ezekiel M. Talbot, the chief engineer of the LM&B Railroad, and his wife Marietta; the plat had 71 lots. The Talbot family also laid out nearby Ambia in 1875. In the 1920s Talbot had about 200 residents and several amenities, including a Methodist church, a grain elevator, a grade school, and eight to ten businesses. A post office operated in Talbot from 1873 to 1995. Talbot sits at about 40.5053°N, 87.4542°W, on flat farmland. The Kankakee, Beaverville and Southern Railroad runs through the town and crosses the Bee Line Railroad about a mile west at Handy. The ZIP code is 47944 and the area code is 765. The community uses Central Time (CST in winter, CDT in summer).
