Timbo is a town and sub-prefecture in Mamou Prefecture, in the Mamou Region of Guinea. It sits in the Fouta Djallon highlands, northeast of Mamou, in an area mainly inhabited by the Fula people. Timbo is known for its traditional architecture, nearby mountains, and local chimpanzees. In the 18th century, Karamokho Alfa led the Fulani Jihad that created the Imamate of Futa Jallon, and Timbo became the capital of that state. The town has an important religious heritage and is known for an eighteenth‑century mosque. Abdul Rahman Ibrahima Sori was from Timbo.
