War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a tactical role-playing game co-developed by Square Enix and Gumi Inc. and published by Square Enix for iOS and Android. It’s a spin-off of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and draws ideas from Final Fantasy Tactics.

The game released in Japan on November 14, 2019, with a global version following on March 25, 2020. As of March 25, 2025, it was announced that the Global version would be discontinued on May 29, 2025, while the Japanese version remains ongoing.

Gameplay is 3D and grid-based, with turn-based tactical combat, similar to The Alchemist Code and the Final Fantasy Tactics series. It includes Esper summoning and other Final Fantasy series elements, along with free-to-play features like gacha for obtaining new characters, who can level up and gain new abilities. The global version features fully voice-acted dialogue with dual audio options.

The story takes place on Ardra, a continent on the world of Lapis—the same world as Brave Exvius—and follows a war among five nations fought using Visions, powerful warriors summoned through Crystals. Ardra is referenced in Brave Exvius but is obscured on the original world map.

War of the Visions was announced in Japan in December 2018 at FFBE Fan Festa. Unlike the original Brave Exvius, this game is co-developed by Square Enix and Gumi and is run in parallel with Brave Exvius. The logo was designed by Yoshitaka Amano, with key art by Isamu Kamikokuryo. Artwork was handled by CyDesignation, with Ryoji Ohara as main character designer under Akihiko Yoshida’s supervision.

Pre-registration for Japan began June 9, 2019, with a gameplay trailer, followed by an English-language announcement at E3 that the game would launch worldwide. The game released in Japan on November 14, 2019, and received regular weekly updates. Global pre-registration started February 20, 2020, and the worldwide release occurred on March 25, 2020. By November 2019, Japan had already downloaded over 3 million copies, reaching over 9 million by February 2020; worldwide downloads surpassed 1 million by the end of March 2020 and reached 2 million by April 2020.

Reviews praised the strong single-player story and voice acting, while criticisms noted the game’s complexity and balance in player-vs-player battles.

On June 29, 2021, Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency accused Square Enix and Gumi of violating advertising laws related to past gacha campaigns, alleging misleading promotions and manipulation of lottery results. The agencies issued an administrative order for better self-regulation, but no penalties were imposed.
