Calosoma obsoletum
Calosoma obsoletum, the old beautiful black searcher, is a ground beetle in the Carabidae family. It was first described by Say in 1823.
Where it lives:
- Range: Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming
- Habitat: open prairies, rangelands, and cultivated fields
What it does:
- Diet: Both adults and larvae prey on caterpillars, including Hemileuca oliviae
