Agapornis atlanticus
Agapornis atlanticus is an extinct parrot known from fossils found in the Ahl al Oughlam cave near Casablanca, Morocco. It lived about 2.5 million years ago during the Piacenzian stage of the Late Pliocene (roughly 2.8 to 2.4 million years ago). The cave deposits suggest an open landscape with little forest and scarce freshwater.
The site also holds remains of desert-adapted rodents and some animals from cooler climates, indicating the area had strong seasonal changes and that some species may have been seasonal visitors. Most large bones were found beneath a vertical chimney in the cave, which suggests that some animals fell in from above or were brought in by predators, with scavengers sometimes getting trapped as they fed on the carcasses.
