Vic Hanson
Vic Hanson (July 30, 1903 – April 10, 1982) was an American athlete and coach who starred at Syracuse University in the 1920s. He played football, basketball, and baseball, and was the captain of all three teams.
In basketball, Hanson earned All-American honors three times (1925–1927) and was named Helms Foundation Player of the Year in 1927. In football, he was a consensus All-American in 1926 and a first-team All-Eastern selection in 1925 and 1926 (and a 1925 third-team pick). Syracuse retired his No. 8 jersey.
After college, he played in the American Basketball League for the Cleveland Rosenblums, helped form the Syracuse All-Americans, and briefly played in the New York Yankees’ farm system.
Hanson returned to Syracuse as the head football coach from 1930 to 1936, posting a 33–21–5 record.
He is the only athlete inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1960, the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973, and the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. He died in Minoa, New York, in 1982.
