Jack McAvoy

Jack McAvoy (John H. McAvoy) was born on November 6, 1930, in Dowagiac, Michigan, and died on May 22, 2008, at age 77 in Dowagiac. He played football, basketball, and track at Hillsdale College around 1953.

McAvoy coached high school football at Bangor, Michigan, in 1957 and at Dowagiac Union High School from 1958 to 1966. He returned to Hillsdale as an assistant football coach from 1967 to 1973 and then served as Hillsdale’s head football coach from 1974 to 1977, posting a 24–16–1 record. He also led Hillsdale’s basketball team for the 1967–68 season, finishing with a 19–8 mark. In addition, he was Hillsdale’s athletic administrator from 1976 to 1996.
