Mateja Vraničar Erman
Mateja Vraničar Erman (born 7 November 1965 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian economist and former politician who served as Slovenia’s Minister of Finance from 21 September 2016 to 13 September 2018. She was the first woman to hold this position and she was an independent, nominated by Prime Minister Miro Cerar’s Modern Centre Party.
Education: She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a law degree from the University of Ljubljana.
Career: Vraničar Erman began as a legal expert and worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1989 to 1993. Since 1993 she has worked at the Ministry of Finance, including a term as State Secretary from April 2010 to February 2012.
Other activities: While serving as finance minister, she was an ex-officio member of the boards of several major international institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the World Bank (2016–2018).
