Udinese Calcio
Udinese Calcio is a professional Italian football club based in Udine, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. They compete in Serie A, the top tier of Italian football. The team is widely known by the nicknames I Bianconeri (The White and Blacks), I Friulani (The Friulians), and Le Zebrette (The Little Zebras). They play their home games at Stadio Friuli, also called the Bluenergy Stadium, which holds about 25,000 spectators.
Udinese started as Società Udinese di Ginnastica e Scherma in 1896 and began focusing on football in 1911. Over the decades the club experienced many ups and downs, with promotions and relegations shaping its long history. They have a large and passionate fan base in Udine and the surrounding region, and their colors have long been black and white, typically in vertical stripes.
The club has had several notable periods. In the mid-2000s, Udinese qualified for the UEFA Cup (later the Europa League) and then achieved their first-ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League in 2004–05. The 2010–11 season saw Udinese finish in fourth place in Serie A, earning another Champions League qualifying spot. Star forwards like Antonio Di Natale have delivered multiple 20+ goal seasons, helping the club compete with Italy’s top teams. Over the years, Udinese has also been known for selling players to bigger clubs and bringing in promising talents who later moved on.
Udinese’s crest has evolved, with a zebra emblem becoming a key symbol for the club. The team’s anthem is Vinci per noi (Win for Us), performed by Connie Del Colle, and played before home games at Stadio Friuli. In addition to football, the club has a strong local identity and a dedicated following in Friuli and neighboring areas.
