Jay O'Brien (born November 4, 1999) is an American ice hockey center who is currently a free agent. He was drafted 19th overall in 2018 by the Philadelphia Flyers and most recently played for the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League (AHL).

O’Brien was born in Hingham, Massachusetts. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 176 pounds, and shoots right.

In high school, he played for Thayer Academy and had a standout 2017–18 season with 80 points in 30 games. He chose to stay at Thayer rather than join the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL, and earned United States High School All-USA Hockey Player of the Year.

After high school, O’Brien played for Providence College in the 2018–19 season but was limited by injuries to 25 games, recording 2 goals and 5 points. He then moved to the Penticton Vees in the BCHL for 2019–20, before joining Boston University for the 2020–21 season.

On August 15, 2023, he became a free agent when the Flyers did not sign him. He signed a one-year AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies on August 25, 2023, but missed the 2023–24 season due to injury. As a free agent, he signed a one-year AHL contract with the Charlotte Checkers on July 2, 2024.

Internationally, O’Brien represented the United States at the 2019 World Junior Championships.
