Tirapata District
Tirapata District is one of fifteen districts in Azángaro Province, in Peru’s Puno Region. The capital is the town of Tirapata. It was founded on November 10, 1943. The mayor is Marino Pumaleque Mango. The district covers 198.73 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 3,880 meters. In 2005, 3,077 people lived there, giving a population density of about 15.5 people per square kilometer. The time zone is UTC-5. The UBIGEO code is 210215. Most residents are indigenous Quechua people; about 83% learned Quechua in childhood, while about 14% started with Spanish.
