The Voice Russia Season 5: A quick overview
The fifth season aired on Channel One from September 2 to December 30, 2016. The coaches were Dima Bilan, Polina Gagarina, Grigory Leps, and Leonid Agutin (back after a one-season break). Dmitry Nagiev was the host.
Winner and highlights:
- Darya Antonyuk won, making Leonid Agutin the winning coach for the first time. Darya, at 20, became the youngest winner in the show’s history.
New features:
- A special Blinds format this season replayed earlier performances and highlighted top performances from artists who didn’t pass Blind auditions or weren’t shown before.
- At the start, past winners performed “Melody” and the coaches performed “Gimme All Your Lovin’.”
Special performances:
- Alexander Gordon sang “In the Death Car” with no coach turning.
- Maxim Galkin sang “Soll ich dich, Teurer, nicht mehr sehn?” with Dima and Polina turning.
- Inga Lepsveridze sang “Not About Angels” with no coach turning.
- Nikolay Baskov sang “Il mondo” with Dima and Polina turning.
Format and results:
- The Battles ran from episodes 8–11. Each coach could steal two losing artists from other coaches. Winners or stolen artists moved to the Knockouts.
- The Knockouts ran from episodes 12–14. The top 24 moved on to the Live Shows.
- In the Live Shows, the Top 24 performed on Fridays, with the two lowest vote-getters from each team eliminated each episode.
- The Top 8 performed on December 23, and the Top 4 performed on December 30, with the finalists singing two solo songs and one duet with their coach.
