The Male Choir of St. Petersburg
The Male Choir of St. Petersburg is a Russian choir that moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg in the 18th century. By the end of the 19th century it had about 90 members: 40 adult men and 50 boys; women were not admitted. Of its 22 bass singers, seven were bassi profondi, including Vladimir Pasyoukov and Vladimir Miller, who could easily sing as low as bottom G. There is a recording by Vadim Afanasiev on EMI Classics.
