Opera House Casino, Scarborough
Opera House Casino is a large casino in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, located at 56–64 St Thomas Street, YO11 1DU. It opened on 26 October 2005 after three years of construction. The £7 million project was funded by the Shaw family, led by Nikolas Shaw, and was Scarborough’s biggest entertainment investment in more than 30 years. It was the first privately funded casino in the UK since the Gambling Act 2005. The venue covers about 23,000 square feet (2,100 m2) and offers 11 gaming tables, 20 electronic terminals, and 20 slot machines, plus several bars. The casino hosts Texas Hold’em poker tournaments for up to 55 players. It was expected to employ around 110 people and attracted more than 5,000 members before it opened.
