The Eyes of Ghana is an American documentary directed by Ben Proudfoot. It follows Chris Hesse, Kwame Nkrumah’s personal cameraman. Nkrumah was Ghana’s first president and was toppled in a 1966 coup. Now in his 90s, Hesse saved more than 1,000 rolls of film from enemies who wanted to destroy them. He passes the reels to a young protégé as they plan a public screening of footage never shown before in Accra.

The music for the film was mixed at Abbey Road Studios. The Eyes of Ghana premiered as the opening film in the documentary section of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. It has a 94% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 16 critics and won the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the Hamptons International Film Festival.
