Farnay is a small commune in the Loire department in central France. It is part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, near the city of Saint-Étienne. The mayor for 2020–2026 is Jean-Alain Barrier. Farnay covers 17.93 square kilometers and had 1,355 residents in 2023, giving a density of about 171 people per square kilometer. The land sits at elevations between 315 and 792 meters, with an average around 445 meters. The postal code is 42320 and the INSEE code is 42093. The area uses CET (UTC+1) in winter and CEST (UTC+2) in summer.
