Sublime (2022 film)
Sublime is a 2022 Argentine coming-of-age drama romance film written and directed by Mariano Biasin. The story follows two best friends who gradually realize they are attracted to each other as they become teenagers.
Production notes: The film faced COVID-19-related disruptions, which led to the removal of some actors during production. It was shot in Villa Gesell, Argentina.
Release: Sublime world premiered on February 12, 2022 at the Berlin International Film Festival. It had a limited release in Argentina on November 17, 2022. In North America, Cinephobia Releasing released the film on video on demand and DVD on June 20, 2023.
Reception: On Rotten Tomatoes, 83% of 12 critics gave it a positive review. Critics praised the natural performances of the young cast and the music, and many found the film insightful and realistic. Some critics, however, described the pacing as slow or the story as modest in its exploration of young gay desire. The New York Times noted a restrained approach, while the Los Angeles Times called it a slight but insightful film. The Guardian gave it 3 out of 5 stars, appreciating its honest look at masculinity.
