Monseigneur Schrijnen Retreat House

The Monseigneur Schrijnen Retreat House is a large building in Heerlen, Netherlands. It was designed by architect Frits Peutz in 1932 and completed in 1933. The house is built in the International Style and sits on top of a steep hill next to the Molenberg, surrounded by the Aambos forest. It was named after Laurentius Schrijnen, the 18th bishop of Roermond (born 1861 in Venlo, died 1932 in Roermond). The building is one of Peutz’s biggest works and was designated a Rijksmonument (state monument) in 1999.
