Belmont is a suburb of Lower Hutt, just north of Wellington. It sits on the west bank of the Hutt River along State Highway 2 and faces central Lower Hutt across the river. Belmont Regional Park borders the area, offering native bush and scenic views.

History and features: The Belmont Picnic Grounds were a popular outing spot in the early 1900s. A kiosk substation of the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences is in the area. Belmont Railway Station closed in 1954.

Geography and population: The Belmont statistical area covers about 2.36 square kilometers. The population was around 2,780 in June 2025, with a density of roughly 1,180 people per square kilometer.

Demographics: In the 2018 census, Belmont had about 2,691 residents in 936 households. The community is mainly European/Pākehā, with Māori, Asian and other groups also present. Around a quarter of residents were born overseas. About half the people reported no religion, and about a third identified as Christian. Many adults have higher education, and the median household income is around $48,000 per year.

Belmont Park: This is a separate area that overlaps with the Belmont Regional Park. It had about 350 residents in 2025, and a very low population density. In 2018, the population was 333.

Education: Belmont School is a co-educational state primary school for Years 1–6, with about 319 students as of October 2025. Raphael House Rudolf Steiner School is nearby in Tirohanga.
