George McGeachie (footballer, born 1939)
George McGeachie (born 9 September 1939) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a left winger for Dundee in Scotland and Darlington in England during the 1950s and 1960s.
Born in Falkirk and educated at Falkirk High School, he joined Dundee as a part-time player while studying for a science degree and later teaching. He made his first-team debut at 17 and soon became a regular, though by the 1961–62 season Dundee won the league title and he became more of a fringe member.
In 1963 he moved to the northeast of England to work for ICI and joined Darlington. He made his Darlington debut on 25 January 1964 in a 10–0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers and went on to be part of the promotion-winning team of 1965–66. He played 135 matches for Darlington in all competitions in less than three years and was ever-present in the promotion season, but a cartilage injury in October 1966 ended his career.
Career totals: Dundee 77 appearances, 8 goals; Darlington 119 appearances, 9 goals; total 196 appearances, 17 goals.
