St. Johannes Rectory
St. Johannes Rectory is a historic two-story house in the Ansonborough area of Charleston, South Carolina. It was built around 1846 by Joel Smith, a planter from Abbeville. The house has a side-hall layout with two large first-floor rooms that open to the west porches, and a main staircase and hallway along the east side.
Before the house was built, Lydia Bryan owned a nearby property at 50 Hasell Street, which was destroyed in the Ansonborough fire of 1838. She gave the lot to her son, John Bryan, in 1841. After several owners, the empty lot was sold to Joel Smith in 1846, who built the house.
On January 26, 1920, St. Johannes Lutheran Church bought the house to use as its rectory.
