Lindsay Fox
Lindsay Edward Fox (born 19 April 1937) is an Australian businessman who started the logistics company Linfox in 1956. He has served as the non-executive chairman of Linfox, and later Fox Holdings. He is married to Paula Grace Peele, and they have six children.
Lindsay Fox grew up in Prahran, Melbourne. He left Melbourne High School at age 16 to work as a truck driver, using that experience to build his business. He also played Australian rules football in his younger years. He played for St Kilda in the VFL from 1959 to 1961, appearing in 20 games and scoring 3 goals. He later played in the Ballarat and VFA leagues, winning a Moorabbin premiership, and became president of the St Kilda Football Club in 1979.
In addition to his transport business, Fox bought Melbourne’s Luna Park in 2005. He has been involved in several property development efforts and disputes with government authorities, including plans on the St Kilda foreshore and helicopter landings near his properties.
Fox has received several honors for his work in business and the community. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1992, awarded the Centenary Medal in 2001, and promoted to Companion of the Order of Australia in 2008. In 2022, a new National Gallery of Victoria gallery was named The Fox: NGV Contemporary after a donation of A$100 million.
His son Michael died by suicide in 1991, and Fox has since spoken about the loss and his work with youth suicide prevention. He has been involved with youth training programs and national advisory work on suicide prevention. He was named Victorian Father of the Year in 1992.
Fox is a car enthusiast with a collection of more than 50 cars. The Fox Classic Car Museum in Docklands displays many of these cars and is run by the Fox Family Trust. His wealth has been reported in the billions of dollars by major lists, with AFR and Forbes noting multi‑billion-dollar rankings in recent years. As of 2025, estimates place his net worth at several billion dollars.
