Six Mile Run (New Jersey)
Six Mile Run is a creek in central New Jersey that flows into the Millstone River. It drains parts of Franklin Township in Somerset County and western areas of North Brunswick and South Brunswick in Middlesex County. The name comes from an old estimate of the distance along the King's Highway (Route 27) from the Raritan River at New Brunswick to where the road crossed the stream.
The run starts near Corporate Road in North Brunswick, flows through a residential area, collects water from a lake, and crosses Route 27. It then joins with Nine Mile Run and crosses South Middlebush Road and Canal Road before draining into the Millstone River. It can be accessed from Cozzens Lane, Route 27, South Middlebush Road, Canal Road, and along the D&R Canal Trail and Six Mile Run Reservoir Site trails.
The terrain is usually rocky and muddy. The streambed is rocky with mud near the start and becomes deep in many places. Downstream, it can be rocky and fast-flowing, especially near Route 27, and it widens when it joins Nine Mile Run. Near its mouth, the bed contains pebbles and sand, and deep pools host many large fish near the Delaware and Raritan Canal. An unnamed tributary flows northward across Skillmans Lane, Bennets Lane, and Veronica Avenue.
