North Adelaide Rockets
North Adelaide Rockets are a basketball club from Adelaide, South Australia. They run both men’s and women’s teams in the NBL1 Central and play home games at The Lights Community & Sports Centre in Lightsview. The club is part of the North Adelaide Basketball Club (NABC), which started in 1939 as the Panthers and became North Adelaide in 1951.
In the SA State League’s first season in 1957, both the Rockets’ men and women won the title. The men have won six championships (1957, 1958, 1959, 1983, 2007, 2021). The women have won 21 SA State League / NBL1 Central titles and also claimed the WNBL championship in 1990. The Rockets played in SEABL for men from 1981 to 1983 and competed in the WNBL from 1981 to 1991, reaching grand finals in 1981, 1988 and 1990 (winning in 1990).
In 2018, the Rockets’ women won the Premier League title with a 79–61 grand final win over Forestville. In 2020, the Premier League joined the NBL1 to form NBL1 Central, and in the league’s first season in 2021 the Rockets’ men won the championship, beating Norwood Flames 87–72.
