Jean-Pierre Sueur (born 28 February 1947) is a French politician from the Socialist Party. He served as a Senator for the Loiret department from 2001 to 2023 and was Quaestor of the Senate from 2020 to 2023. He was the mayor of Orléans from 1989 to 2001. From 1991 to 1993, he was Secretary of State for Territorial Collectivity in the governments of Édith Cresson and Pierre Bérégovoy under President François Mitterrand. He was a Deputy in the National Assembly for Loiret from 1981 to 1991. A linguist by training, he taught at the University of Orléans from 1973 and studied at ENS Saint-Cloud. He is married to Monique Pontier and has three daughters, including Catherine Sueur. In the 2011 Socialist Party primaries, he backed Martine Aubry for president.
