Nestlé Bear Brand
Bear Brand is a Nestlé drink and powdered-milk brand that began in the Philippines in 1892. It’s available across Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Eastern Africa, and you can find it in Asian stores in the United States and Canada. In Indonesia the product is called Susu Cap Beruang, and in Switzerland the brand is known as Bärenmarke.
Variants include Bear Brand Choco, Real Strawberry, Adult Plus, Busog Lusog, and Bear Brand Gold. There are regional versions as well: Bear Brand Sterilized in Thailand; Cambodia introduced the brand in July 2015, and Myanmar in October 2016. The Indonesian packaging comes in a slim 189 mL tube.
Branding history:
- 1906: the original logo showed a bear feeding a cub.
- 1967: the bottle image was removed.
- 1976: Bear Brand Powdered Milk launched with the bear and cub and a wordmark.
- 1992: bears updated to a cartoonish look; 1996 added a shield to the logo; 2002 adopted the current shield form.
- 2004: in many Southeast Asian markets, the circle logo appeared.
- 2013: the shield wordmark typeface changed from Franklin Gothic to Arial.
- Since 2016: in Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, the circle logo uses Helvetica.
In the Philippines, Bear Brand has the slogan Tibay Araw-Araw since 2012. The brand also runs nutrition education programs like Laki Sa Gatas, launched in 2006. In 2015, Bear Brand published the Alamat ng Matibay book, introducing Mina and Sonson.
