Shirin Sohani (born 1986 in Tehran, Iran) is an Iranian animation director and designer. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Handicrafts in 2010 and a Master’s degree in Animation in 2013 from the University of Art in Tehran. She is married to Hossein Molayemi. Sohani has directed and co-directed several short films, including The Fan (2014), Run Rostam Run (2017), and In the Shadow of the Cypress (2023). In 2025, the short In the Shadow of the Cypress won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards, marking Iran’s first Oscar in animation and a milestone for the industry.
