Powerhouse Gym
Powerhouse Gym is a network of fitness centers licensed to use its brand. It includes more than 200 licensed centers and has grown to over 300 licensees in 39 states and 15 countries. It began in 1974 in Highland Park, Michigan, founded by brothers William and Norman Dabish as a neighborhood gym that also trained pro athletes like boxer Tommy “Hitman” Hearns and bodybuilders Samir Bannout and Tom Platz. In 1984, Powerhouse started a licensing division to fuel its expansion beyond the original gym. The company expanded into other areas: a clothing line launched in 1984 that started with four items and became a large fitness apparel line; Powerhouse Magazine launched in 1992 to help licensees and inform members; and Powerhouse TV (Powerhouse T.V.) began in 2002 to give gym owners control over ads and music.
