Sharome van Schalkwyk
Sharome Renay van Schalkwyk is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) as a Member of Parliament from 2014 to 2024.
In the 2014 general election, she was fourth on the ANC’s Northern Cape regional list and was sworn into the National Assembly on 21 May 2014. She joined the Portfolio Committee on Labour in June 2014, then the Portfolio Committee on Communications in May 2015. On 20 October 2016, she moved to the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry. In 2018 she was appointed the whip for the ANC Study Group on Public Service and Administration.
Van Schalkwyk stood for re-election in 2019, but her placement on the ANC’s national list led to her not initially returning to Parliament. After MP Collen Maine resigned on 5 July 2019, she was chosen to fill his seat and was sworn in the same day. She joined the Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure on 19 July 2019 and the Standing Committee on the Auditor General on 20 August 2019.
She did not stand in the 2024 general election and left Parliament. She is described as a politician by profession.
