Yavor Konov
Yavor Svetozarov Konov (born October 23, 1964, in Sofia) is a Bulgarian classical pianist, professor, and writer. He studied piano with Lyubomir Pipkov at Sofia’s National Music High School (1983) and later studied musicology, polyphony, and chorus conducting at the National Academy of Music, Sofia (1991). In 1995 he completed a harpsichord master class in Orvieto, Italy. He earned Doctor of Art in 1998 and Doctor of Art Sciences in 2006.
From 1992 to 2010 he worked at South-West University “Neofit Rilski” in Blagoevgrad. In 2005 he became Professor of Polyphony at the Department of Music, Faculty of Arts. In 2008 he became Director of the University Resource Center for Francophone Studies at SWU. Since December 2010 he has been a professor at the Department of Music at New Bulgarian University, Sofia. He has also lectured as a guest at Sofia University and at the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts.
He co-founded the Music Society “Vassil Stefanov” in Sofia and served as deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine Music. Yesterday. Today until 2012. He is married to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Theodora Bolyarova-Konova, and they have two children: Theresa (born 2000) and Andrey (born 2007).
Konov has authored over 200 publications, including textbooks, translations, and scientific studies. His work is recognized by the Baroque Music Center in Versailles and the Sorbonne in Paris. In 2009 he was described as an “excellent specialist.” In 2011 a Round Table at the Versailles Library celebrated the Bulgarian edition of The Dictionary of Music by de Brossard and highlighted French-Bulgarian collaboration.
