Science (1829 ship)
Science was a British brig built by Tindall in Scarborough and launched on 4 May 1829. It carried about 230–250 tons and sailed under a license from the British East India Company. Captain J. Saunders left England for Mauritius on 20 September 1829. On 9 September 1831 Captain W. Saunders sailed her from Britain to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). She left Hobart in May 1832 bound for London. On 21 June 1832, after heavy seas damaged the ship off Cape Horn, Chile, the crew set it on fire and abandoned it. The American whaler Warren rescued the crew. Science was on a voyage from Van Diemen's Land to London.
