St. Stephen's Episcopal Church (Ridgeway, South Carolina)
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church is a historic church located northeast of Ridgeway, South Carolina, on County Road 106. The wooden building was completed in 1854 in Carpenter Gothic style and was designed by Rev. John Dewitt McCollough, who later became its rector. The exterior was originally maroon, and in 1920 the wood was covered with brick veneer, so the outside now looks like a brick Gothic Revival church while the interior retains Carpenter Gothic features. A wing was added in the 1940s to provide space for a parish hall and Sunday school. The church began in 1839 as a chapel of ease for St. John's Parish, Fairfield, and became a separate parish in 1889. One early rector was Rev. William Porcher DuBose, who served from 1865 to 1868. St. Stephen's was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 6, 1971 (NRHP reference number 71000778).
