Svenska Kennelklubben
Svenska Kennelklubben (SKK), the Swedish Kennel Club, was founded on 13 December 1889. It is a Swedish organization for purebred dogs and their owners, aiming to promote healthy, well‑groomed dogs that can work or hunt and look good. Today SKK has more than 300,000 members, mostly ordinary dog owners; about 15,000 are breeders, hunters, or people who work with dogs. Of Sweden’s roughly 780,000 dogs, around 70% are registered with SKK. The club is organized through county, specialty, and breed clubs across the country, and it hosts many exhibitions and competitions. SKK’s office is in Stockholm with about 75 employees. It registers around 70% of Sweden’s dogs and is a member of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). SKK develops guidelines on genetics, behavior, and show quality, and has created the Behaviour and Personality Assessment in Dogs (BPH) to measure dogs’ behavior. The central office includes a Department for Breeding and Health with eight staff, including two breeding consultants, a veterinarian, and a geneticist.
