Scaldfish
Scaldfish are flatfish in the genus Arnoglossus, a group of lefteye flounders. They live in the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans, including the Mediterranean and Black Sea. They are mostly absent from the Americas, with only two species found off Chile (A. coeruleosticta and A. multirastris). These fish range from shallow to deeper waters, and the largest species grow to about 28 cm (11 inches). There are about 37 living species in the genus, plus several fossil species. They belong to the family Bothidae, in the order Carangiformes. The genus Arnoglossus was described by Bleeker in 1862, with records dating back to the Early Miocene and continuing to today.
