National Border Management Agency (BNPP)

The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) is Indonesia’s government body responsible for coordinating and guiding border management. It was created in 2010 under Presidential Regulation No. 12/2010 and is guided by Law No. 43 of 2008 on State Territory.

What BNPP does
- Develops plans and policies for border development and management, covering both land and sea borders.
- Coordinates border policies, oversees border delineation and security, and monitors progress on border projects.
- Focuses on budgeting, policy coordination, and program evaluation rather than direct enforcement.

Leadership and accountability
- BNPP is led by the Minister of Home Affairs (Head of BNPP) and Chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. Both leaders hold these roles by virtue of their current government offices.

Membership
- BNPP includes high-level officials from about 18–20 ministries and agencies, such as the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the National Counter Terrorism Agency, and the National Narcotics Board.
- It also includes 13 regional governors with border territories and a secretariat with a secretary and three deputies.

Headquarters and website
- BNPP is headquartered in Central Jakarta, Indonesia.
- Website: bnpp.go.id

In short, BNPP coordinates Indonesia’s border policy and planning, supports border development, and reports on progress, while actual border enforcement is carried out by other agencies.
