Harava Solar Power Station
Harava Solar Power Station is a 20-megawatt solar farm under construction in Zimbabwe. It sits on about 28 hectares near the village of Bwoni in Seke Rural, Seke District, Mashonaland East, roughly 47 kilometers southeast of Harare. The plant uses around 66,000 solar panels and will feed electricity into Zimbabwe’s national grid. It is owned by Harava Solar Limited, a joint venture between the Seke Community and the Zimbabwean Ministry of Energy and Power Development, with about US$25 million funded by the government. The power will be purchased by ZESA under a 25-year agreement.
Electricity will be sent via a new 132 kV line to a 330 kV substation at Dema Power Station, linking to the national grid. Construction began in 2019, with an expected commercial operation date around 2022. The project is located near the Dema Thermal Power Station, about 11 kilometers away. Development faced delays after a dispute between the EPC contractor Soventix SA of Germany and its South African subcontractor eXess Africa, leading to court action and work stoppages in 2021.
