Sam Williams (basketball, born 1959)
Sam Williams, nicknamed "Slam," is a former American basketball player who played in the NBA in the early 1980s. He was born on March 7, 1959, in Los Angeles and stood 6 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds. He went to Westchester High School in Los Angeles and played college basketball at Pasadena City College and Arizona State, where he earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors in 1981.
Williams was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the 1981 NBA draft (33rd overall). He played in the NBA from 1981 to 1985 with the Warriors (1981–83) and the Philadelphia 76ers (1983–85). After the NBA, he continued his professional career overseas and in other leagues, including Virtus Bologna and Basket Napoli in Italy, BCM Gravelines in France, Fenerbahçe in Turkey, and the Bakersfield Jammers in the Continental Basketball Association (1991–1992).
