2013 Hessian state election
The 2013 Hessian state election was held on 22 September 2013 to elect all 110 seats of the Landtag of Hesse. It happened on the same day as the federal election in Germany. The sitting CDU–FDP government led by Minister-President Volker Bouffier was defeated.
Key results
- CDU: 38.3% of the vote, 47 seats (up 1 seat)
- SPD: 30.7% of the vote, 37 seats (up 8)
- Greens: 11.1% of the vote, 14 seats (down 3)
- Left: 5.2% of the vote, 6 seats (unchanged)
- FDP: 5.0% of the vote, 6 seats (down 14)
Turnout was 73.2%, up 12.2 percentage points from the previous election.
After the election, no party had a majority on its own. The CDU formed a new coalition with The Greens, and Bouffier continued as Minister-President in what is known as the Second Bouffier cabinet.
