Tonny van de Vondervoort
Tonny van de Vondervoort (born 9 April 1950 in Broekland) is a Dutch Labour Party politician. She started her political career in Groningen, serving as a municipal councilor from 1978 and as alderwoman from 1986 to 1994, with responsibilities including education, culture, emancipation, and later finances and organization. She helped reorganize the city’s administration and dealt with financial problems at the Groningen Credit Bank.
In 1994 she became State Secretary for the Interior in the first Kok cabinet, serving until 1998. Her work focused on administrative reform and the finances of lower levels of government, and she handled plans for “city provinces” in metropolitan areas, including Rotterdam. She withdrew the Rotterdam-related bill in 1996 after parliamentary amendments. She was knighted in 1998.
After leaving the cabinet, she worked as a management consultant for Deloitte. She later moved to South Holland politics, serving as acting mayor of several towns: Drechterland (2004–2006), Zaanstad (2006–2007), Sliedrecht (2011–2012), and Doetinchem (2013–2014). She was a member of the Provincial Executive of South Holland (2007–2011) and a member of the Provincial Council (2011–2015).
From 2014 to 2020 she chaired GGD GHOR Netherlands, the national association of regional public health services. Earlier in her career she held roles with the Groningen University of Applied Sciences and the Council for Public Administration.
Personal details: Van de Vondervoort joined the Labour Party in 1974, has two children, and has lived in Alphen aan den Rijn. She studied at the Enschede Social Academy and grew up Roman Catholic.
