STX Corporation is a public South Korean company that provides trading services and ship maintenance. It has two divisions: Trade, dealing with shipping materials like coal, oil, and steel, and Ship Maintenance, offering cargo management, marine technical services, insurance, crew management, and related services. Headquarters are in Changwon, South Korea (Gyeongsangnam-do), and the company was founded in 1976. Chairman: Park Sang-joon. Total assets were US$23 billion (2008 Q2). It employed about 44,000 people in total, with around 20,000 at STX Europe (2008). Major subsidiaries include STX Marine Service and STX Resort, along with STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, STX Engine, STX Heavy Industries, STX PanOcean, and STX Energy. STX Offshore & Shipbuilding was the world’s fourth-largest shipbuilder and, in 2008, acquired Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards to diversify its product line.
