Noormarkku is a former municipality in Western Finland, in the Satakunta region. It covered about 332 square kilometers, with 15.2 square kilometers of water, and had around 6,158 residents in 2009 (roughly 19 people per square kilometer). It is the birthplace of the Ahlström Corporation, with Antti Ahlström investing in the town’s development, starting one of Finland’s first Finnish-language schools and building a road network. Noormarkku was merged with the city of Pori on January 1, 2010. A notable landmark is Villa Mairea, designed by Alvar Aalto as the private home of Maire and Harry Gullichsen.
