Rural Municipality of Wheatlands No. 163
The Rural Municipality of Wheatlands No. 163 is a rural area in southwest Saskatchewan, Canada. It is part of Census Division No. 7 and SARM Division No. 2. The RM covers about 820 square kilometers of farmland.
Population and growth: It had about 149 residents in 2016 and 157 in 2021, a small increase. The population density is very low, around 0.2 people per square kilometer.
Incorporation and government: The RM was formed on December 13, 1909. It is governed by an elected council and an appointed administrator. The reeve is Kurtis Hicks and the administrator is Angela Molde. The council meets on the second Wednesday of every month. The RM’s office is in Mortlach at 108 Rose Street.
Geography and wildlife: The land features the Coteau Hills that fade into flat agricultural plains. The area is home to the burrowing owl, an endangered species.
Location and services: The RM uses area codes 306 and 639 and operates on Central Standard Time year-round (no daylight saving time).
