The House in the Cerulean Sea is a fantasy novel by TJ Klune, published by Tor Publications on March 17, 2020. Linus Baker works for a department that protects magical youths and must inspect an orphanage that is thought to be dangerous. He travels to the end of the rail line and to Marsyas Island to reach the orphanage. The children include Talia the gnome, Theodore the wyvern, Phee the forest sprite, Sal the boy, Chauncey the creature, and Lucy, the Antichrist. While visiting, Linus falls in love with the orphanage’s caretaker. The book received many positive reviews. Publishers Weekly called it hopeful to its core. Kirkus Reviews said the writing can be a little wooden, but fans of quirky fantasy will enjoy it. Library Journal called it a charming, funny tale about chosen family and finding your place in the world. Booklist called it a sweet story about asking questions and giving people a chance. Brainerd Dispatch praised it for tugging at heartstrings. Springfield News-Leader described it as enchanting, whimsical and tender. Common Sense Media gave it 5 stars for ages twelve and up.
