Rosa Simonovich
Rosa Simonovich (20 June 1850 – ?) was the first Ukrainian woman to earn a medical degree from the University of Bern. She was born in Odessa, Ukraine. She studied at Zurich University, researching emetics and joints. Her studies at Zurich were cut short when Russian women students were expelled from Zurich by order of the tsar. She moved to Bern in 1873 and studied ophthalmology with Heinrich Dor. In Bern she researched hyoscyamine as an alternative to atropine for eye surgery. She graduated in 1874. After that, little is known about her life, including the date of her death.
