Tumpong

The tumpong is a small bamboo flute from the Philippines, used by the Maguindanao people (also called inci by the Maranao). It is about half the size of the larger palendag. Like the palendag, the tumpong is a lip-valley flute: players blow over a bamboo reed on top and the air is directed through an opening on the top to make sound. It is a masculine instrument and is usually played at evening family gatherings; it is the Maguindanaon’s most common flute.
